“In 2020 there were 657 million women aged 45- 59, many contributing to the workforce throughout their menopausal years”.6

United States

In the United States (US), how many women experience menopause each year?

In Research Explores the Impact of Menopause on Women’s Health and Aging, dated 22 May 2022, the (United States) National Institute of Aging note:

“More than 1 million women in the United States experience menopause each year”.7

The NAMS note:

“An estimated 6,000 US women reach menopause every day (more than 2 million per year)”.8

Other figures quoted by the NAMS are:

“There were an estimated 50 million postmenopausal women in the United States in 2010. About 45 million of them were aged older than 52 years, the average age of natural menopause in the Western world. By the year 2020, the number of US women aged older than 51 years is expected to be more than 50 million”.9

Canada

In Canada, how many women will be postmenopausal by 2026?

According to numbers quoted by the NAMS:

“By 2026, it is estimated that almost one-quarter (22%) of the Canadian population will be composed of women older than age 50”.10

Australia

In Australia, how many women are postmenopausal?

In April 2014, the Australian Menopause Society note:

“The importance of the menopause can best be comprehended when it is realised that there are over 2 million post-menopausal women in Australia, and that every year about 80,000 new women join this group.

These women constitute 40% of all health care visits in Australia”.11
